Through our comprehensive training programs, YSAR equips young people with the skills, knowledge, and resilience needed to meet the challenges of an ever-changing world.
In today’s fast-paced and complex environment, it’s not easy for young people. They face challenges unlike those experienced by previous generations—technology’s rapid evolution, the state of the planet, the pressures of social media, and for many, a growing sense of hopelessness about the future. At YSAR, we aim to change that. We empower youth, giving them the agency to thrive in a complex world, to take control of their future, and to make meaningful contributions to their communities.
Our graduates, who join us in their teenage years, make an incredible transition from youth to adulthood by the time they graduate at 17 or 18. They emerge from YSAR not only with technical expertise but as well-rounded individuals—leaders, critical thinkers, and volunteers for life. These young people are ready to make significant contributions across a variety of sectors, from search and rescue to emergency management, public sector, private industry, and beyond.
YSAR’s philosophy of investing in youth mirrors that of other renowned organisations such as the Duke of Edinburgh’s Hillary Award and Outward Bound. These programs, much like ours, understand the profound and lasting impact of empowering young people to grow through challenge and service. Whether it’s through YSAR or similar initiatives, participants are universally transformed by these experiences. They leave with a sense of purpose, confidence, and a lifelong commitment to making a difference.
As Chief Executive of YSAR, I’ve had my share of personal challenges, and I know firsthand the importance of perseverance, resilience, and keeping an eye on the horizon even when it is hiden behind the obstacle directly in front of us. Leadership isn’t just about solving immediate problems—it’s about envisioning the possibilities ahead and guiding others toward that vision. At YSAR, we instil this mindset in our young people, encouraging them to think beyond today’s obstacles and consider what they can achieve for tomorrow.
There will always be those who question why we place such a strong emphasis on youth development, on diversity, or on leveraging technology. But we remain focused on what matters most: staying true to our mission. Our graduates are the proof.
