This year, we’re showcasing how each member of our team—from our inspiring students to our dedicated Board—plays a crucial role in driving YSAR’s success. Students

Key Responsibilities

  • Actively participate in the YSAR programme to build search and rescue skills.
  • Engage in hands-on learning experiences.
  • Contribute positively to their local branch and the wider community.

Branch Instructors & Volunteers

Key Responsibilities

  • Deliver the YSAR curriculum on the ground, guiding and mentoring students.
  • Maintain safety standards and best practice teaching methods.
  • Foster teamwork and resilience among all participants.

Local Operations Committee (Volunteers)

Key Responsibilities

  • Coordinate local events, activities and community outreach.
  • Provide logistical support to the Branch Operations Manager.
  • Share grassroots feedback with the national team, helping refine YSAR’s approach.

Branch Operations Manager (Volunteer)

Key Responsibilities

  • Oversee daily branch activities and volunteer coordination.
  • Align branch efforts with YSAR’s national objectives.
  • Drive local community engagement and uphold YSAR’s mission.

Funding & Administration – Marina Pauliukova

Key Responsibilities

  • Coordinate funding applications and handle financial administration tasks.
  • Manage daily administrative duties and record-keeping.
  • Ensure accurate, timely reporting to support YSAR’s organisational goals.

Branch Support Specialists – Kelly Hoskin & Leonie Johnson

Key Responsibilities

  • Offer targeted support to each branch, from training to operational guidance.
  • Facilitate sharing of best practice and resources across all regions including SAR and EM sector partnership engaement
  • Help branches grow sustainably while meeting the needs of their communities.

National Programme & Safety Audit Compliance Manager – Neil Penniston

Key Responsibilities

  • Develop and manage YSAR’s national curriculum and instructor competencies.
  • Conduct audits to ensure full compliance with regulations.
  • Implement improvements that maintain the highest level of quality across all programmes.

National Operations Manager – Brett Harper

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead national operations to ensure consistent and effective programme delivery.
  • Promote collaboration and continuous improvement among all branches.
  • Uphold YSAR’s standards for operational excellence across the country.

Chief Financial Officer (CFO) & People & Culture – Lisa Shaw

Key Responsibilities

  • Maintain YSAR’s financial wellbeing and transparency.
  • Oversee people and culture initiatives, fostering an inclusive environment.
  • Advise on budget, long-term planning, and volunteer/staff development.

Executive Assistant / Marketing & Funding Manager – Rachel Campbell

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide executive-level support to the CEO and Board of Trustees.
  • Develop and execute marketing and funding strategies.
  • Cultivate relationships with sponsors, partners, and the wider community.

Chief Executive Officer (CEO) – Steve Campbell

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide visionary leadership and assists in setting YSAR’s strategic direction.
  • Foster partnerships, innovation, and organisational growth.
  • Ensure accountability and oversee the organisation’s overall performance.

Board of Trustees – (Chair) Daniel McGowen
