Learning to survive, thrive and save lives

YSAR partnership with NZ Police grows stronger – YSAR visit Auckland Police SAR depot and meet the team

The NZ Police are the lead agency for Cat 1 Search and Rescue responses in New Zealand and therefore Youth Search and Rescue Level 2 curriculum includes connecting with local Police SAR Teams. One of the key components of the YSAR programme is to understand the Command and Control structure within Search and Rescue and Emergency Management and to meet the key partner agencies. On the 13th April Auckland YSAR Cohort 2021 had the privilege to visit the Auckland Police SAR depot and meet some of the Police SAR and specialist group members.  These visits also inspire some students to follow career opportunities within these sectors. This is all part of a long-term strategy to strengthen the future SAR and EM workforce by focusing on youth development, diversity, and innovation.

To ensure a better and more vibrant future, we need to plan toward it and invest in it.
